11 A Joke with a Bad Punchline

The idea of a monarchy is a joke. The grovelling we witness from politicians and media figures is hilarious to watch and the royal families involved act as ornaments on a shelf.

But the joke has one problem; some people don't realise that it's a joke.

Many steps beyond!

To see if you are in this category please answer this simple question:

1 - Do I actually believe that someone's ancestors (specifically following the eldest [usually male] child with a couple of gaps and assumptions on the way) makes any difference whatsoever to the value of that person?

If you said NO, congratulations you are a functional human being. If you said YES then:

1b - If those ancestors were terrible people who committed atrocious crimes (oh god there are LOTS of choices available here but we settled for this one), does that make them awful people by default? If so, why would you want them as your sovereign? If not, then please list the ways that a bloodline matters and doesn't matter in the comments section below (please start your comment with the words 'Schrodinger's Bloodline')

Our campaign for a Cat Queen is an attempt to make the joke funny for everyone. This is based on a simple principle:

Lavishing a cat is normal - lavishing an already wealthy human is not

Having a cat be head of state removes even the slightest indication that a human being can be born better than another. The concept of eugenics (more details here) is a failed one that should be consigned to the history books.

No-one is born better than anyone else. Some people are more naturally athletic, some are cleverer, some people have allergies that others do not. This doesn't make someone better and none of these things actually matters for a head of state. There are no divine bloodlines like those of Perseus, Aeneas or Heracles, and no amount of bunting will ever change that.

We believe that the head of state should represent the values of their people and country, and that a cat achieves this goal better than any human could. Let's make the joke of monarchy funny.

Long love her furry highness and all who follow her.
